# Calls on WhatsApp (/docs/whatsapp/calling)

> Let customers call your WhatsApp number and have your AI agent answer.

Customers can call your WhatsApp Business number from the chat, and your agent answers the call the same way it answers a phone call.

This comes after [importing your number](/docs/whatsapp/import-number) and [connecting replies](/docs/whatsapp/inbound-replies).

## Before you start [#before-you-start]

* Your number is on the Cloud API and registered.
* Replies are connected on the number. Calls arrive on the same connection as messages.
* An agent is attached under **Answered by**.
* Your WhatsApp Business Account can message at least 2,000 people a day. Meta sets this limit per business portfolio and raises it after business verification and healthy sending. You can see it in WhatsApp Manager under the phone number.

## Turn calling on [#turn-calling-on]

On the number card, click **Off · Set up** in the **Calls** row. The dialog checks each requirement and tells you what is missing. When everything passes, click **Turn on calling**.

It can take up to seven days for the call button to appear in customers' chats. Until then, a template message with a call button, or a wa.me link to your number, lets customers call you straight away.

## What customers can do [#what-customers-can-do]

Customers can call your number. Your number cannot call them: calls only go one way.

## If calling stops working [#if-calling-stops-working]

Meta can pause calling on a number whose quality rating drops. The Calls dialog shows this as a reason, and calling resumes on its own when the rating recovers. Turning calling off is the same dialog: **Turn off calling**.

Codes Meta may return are listed on the [WhatsApp error codes](/docs/whatsapp/error-codes) page.
